What you’ll do

The qualified candidate will provide support to the engineering functions of the firm. They would understand and interpret drawings, plans, details, and specifications in the field on construction projects. They will also be comfortable with taking field measurements and managing construction projects. Field work will primarily consist of construction observation and documentation of work in progress, keeping daily records of quantities and activities, verifying material specifications, and ensuring compliance with plans and specifications. Also, the candidate will be required to assist with tracking requests for information, change orders, and contractor and client communications.

  1. Field measurements for record drawings and verifying compliance to plan will utilize some survey equipment, such as GPS, optical or laser lever, and hand tools, such as measuring rod and tape. On-the-job-training will be provided as needed
  2. Works independently in the field with oversight by the engineer of record and project manager. Has authority, as given by project manager, to stop construction jobs if it appears contractors are deviating from design or materials as specified
  3. Office work may include review of drawings or specifications as part of our QC/QA program, as well as responding to requests for information, change orders, or other project related correspondence
  4. Maintain equipment used in the field and in the office
  5. A team player and understands the need to maintain client confidentiality of all project work
  6. Overtime work will be standard during construction season

What it takes

  1. Associate Degree in Construction Technology, Industrial Technology, or Engineering Technology from a technical college or institution required
  2. 5-10 years of construction related project experience required
  3. Must be familiar with technical measurement, surveying, and reading and interpreting construction plans
  4. Familiarity with Microsoft Office required
  5. Familiarity with Bluebeam preferred
  6. CAD experience preferred
  7. Able to perform observation duties for construction projects, recording data, taking measurements, and verify activities & quantities in relation to plan and specification documents
  8. Able to effectively communicate information to co-workers and contractors
