Hiring Requirements
WSAV-TV is in one of the most beautiful cities in the world: Savannah, Georgia. WSAV is a state-of-the-art Nexstar facility with all the best tools and toys. We have nice, mild winter weather and a long, hot summer.
WSAV is looking to hire an experienced Production Specialist to primarily be a Newscast Director. This multi-faceted job requires solid experience directing daily studio newscasts using ENPS newsroom software. We use the latest Sony ELC (Enhanced Live Control) Automated Production System with a top-of-the-line Vinten/Hitachi robotic camera system. Experience with this machine, or a similar automated production system like Ross Overdrive or Grass Valley Ignite is required. We will train you to operate our equipment and learn our systems, but this job is not for beginners on automation.
Directing Newscasts is just one of the many things you will do to put all your skills to use in a job where the other assignments can change daily.
Directing/Producing digital-only shows for CTV is becoming a bigger part of our job each day as WSAV expands its digital reach with our new CTV Platform WSAV+. You will have daily and weekly assignments putting together CTV shows with the WSAV News and Sports teams, as well as outside clients and commercial productions.
You’ll need great editing skills using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop. You will be editing something every day. From recordings of cut-ins for playback later, preproduction for news, or commercial and marketing projects. You’ll work with other members of our Production crew shooting with news team members, editing projects daily and occasionally long-form programming.
Not only does WSAV produce the best newscasts in the market, but we are also the leader in Live Remote Productions. You may be called on to become a sports replay operator using the latest Newtek Tricaster TC-2 Elite and 3Play 425 equipment. Maybe you can run a Jib. We own and operate our own 40-foot jib.
Field experience in audio is a big plus. Audio in our mobile unit is mixed on a Behringer X32 console. We have Yamaha consoles in use with our Sony ELC.
Knowledge of a wide range of professional video cameras from Blackmagic, Panasonic, Hitachi, DSLR cameras such as the Canon C300 MKIII and 80D’s, wired and wireless microphone systems, LED studio and location lighting is essential.
Candidates must be willing and physically able to climb ladders and lift medium heavy objects and cases to load and unload trucks, and to work long hours outside on location when necessary.
You should be able to pass a GA DOT physical certification for commercial drivers. You must be willing and able to possibly be trained to drive a large truck (Ford F250) and eventually expected to tow and maneuver our 24-foot production trailer.
If you are a master of some or most of these disciplines, we would be willing to train the right directing candidate on our Sony ELC system. But the expectation is that you will hit the ground running.
This is not your typical Newscast Director position, but a great job in media doing just about everything production in a super nice, newly renovated building with all the latest and greatest gear. Future advancement potential is wide open. You’ll be part of a team that is part of the largest company in the business with stations just about everywhere.
It has been almost 5 years since we have had an opening for this position. This is a rare chance to join a great team of professionals that have been together for years, in what we believe is one of the best working environments in the world!
