Senior CNC Programmer
at ADC Aerospace
JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior CNC Programmer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) programs to be used in the machining of Die Casting components. The role requires expertise in CNC programming, a strong understanding of aerospace /Defense engineering specifications, and a focus on precision, efficiency, and safety in manufacturing processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and modify CNC machine programs using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Siemens NX, CATIA, SolidWorks).
- Develop machining strategies for complex aerospace Diecast parts, ensuring they meet engineering specifications and tolerance requirements.
- Generate tool paths and setup instructions for CNC mills, lathes, and other advanced machine tools.
- Review 3D CAD models and technical drawings of Diecast components to identify key machining features and requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to resolve design and manufacturing challenges.
- Ensure proper tool selection and optimize machining parameters (cutting speeds, feeds, etc.) for efficiency and part quality.
- Set up CNC machines with appropriate fixtures, tools, and materials to produce parts per design specifications.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure that parts meet strict aerospace standards, including material properties and dimensional accuracy.
-
Perform test runs and make necessary adjustments to CNC programs to achieve optimal results.
-
Verify that finished parts meet required tolerances through measurement and inspection.
- Maintain and update CNC program documentation, including revisions, process sheets, and work instructions.
- Provide feedback and reports on production performance, efficiency, and any areas for improvement.
- Analyze manufacturing processes and suggest improvements in tooling, machining methods, and workflow to reduce cycle times and costs.
- Work closely with engineers, machinists, and production teams to ensure that CNC programs are executed correctly and meet all operational and customer requirements.
- Communicate clearly regarding changes or adjustments to programming and tooling.
- Perform basic part measurements during setup to validate linear dimensions
- Calibrate and modify machine fixtures during process development as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Highschool Diploma 8+ years' experience in CNC programming, manufacturing engineering, preferably within the aerospace Die Casting industries.
- Hands-on experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Siemens NX, CATIA).
- Advanced to Expert level skills in interpreting raw CMM results to develop precise CNC programs, including the application of probing techniques for in-process inspection during machining.
- Extensive experience with CNC milling, turning, and multi-axis machines.
- Familiarity with aerospace materials, tolerances, and inspection methods is highly preferred.
- Proficient in the use of CNC programming languages (e.g., G-code, M-code).
- Strong knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, and fixtures.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and blueprints.
- Familiarity with aerospace industry standards (e.g., AS9100, FAA regulations).
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration across teams.
OTHER SUBJECTIVE CRITERIA:
- Certification in CNC programming or machining (e.g., from NIMS, FANUC, or similar organizations).
- Capable of programming 5 axis simultaneous and active probing on Doosan, Brother, and Haas.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to work standing up for long hours.
