Medical Assistant - Carrell Clinic

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies or forms. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
  2. Escort patient to exam room, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient's chart.
  3. Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injection including collection and preparing laboratory specimens.
  4. Maintains adequate staffing and coverage in department on a daily basis until all patients have completed their appointments.
  5. Be able to explain treatment procedures to patient.
  6. Teach exercises as prescribed by physician or physician assistant.
  7. Stock supplies, gowns, shorts or forms in each station and rooms.
  8. Documents all items in the electronic health record in a timely manner.
  9. Assist physician and physician assistant in exam room with injections, sutures or other minor procedures.
  10. Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant.
  11. Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.).
  12. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  13. Recognizes and maintains the confidentiality of the patient by following all HIPAA, clinical, OSHA and infection control standards and guidelines.
  14. Promptly responds to customers in a friendly manner, listening carefully and using customer's name. Every customer greeted with a smile.
  15. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  16. Displays a positive appearance including appropriate dress as defined in employee handbook, and wears visible identification badge at all times.
  17. Takes pride in organization as if you owned it, speaks positively about the organization, and practices safety as a work habit.
  18. Is consistently courteous and helpful.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or equivalent. BLS certification within two years of hire date is required.

**EXPERIENCE **

Previous Medical experience desired. Previous exposure dealing with physicians face-to-face on a regular basis.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Must have general knowledge of medical practice and terminology and possess computer skills.
  • A good grasp of standard written and verbal English, good spelling, and grammar.
