Reinsurance Senior Accountant

Reporting to the Bermuda Chief Accounting Officer, our Reinsurance Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting, financial reporting, and operational activities of the Company's reinsurance portfolio. This role serves as a key partner across Finance, Actuarial, Risk, Investments, and Reinsurance Administration, ensuring the accurate accounting and reporting of complex assumed and ceded reinsurance transactions.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in end-to-end reinsurance accounting, treaty analysis, financial reporting, and operational process execution. This individual will play a critical role in supporting strategic reinsurance initiatives, driving process improvements, maintaining strong internal controls, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements.
This position offers a hybrid work schedule in our Bermuda office, with an on–site presence of 2–3 days per week combining flexibility with team collaboration.
What You’ll Be Doing

Prepare and analyze financial reporting for U.S. GAAP, U.S. STAT, and Schedule S requirements.

Perform daily reinsurance accounting activities, including transaction recording, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.

Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies in a timely manner.

Compile and analyze monthly and quarterly financial reports, settlement statements, management reporting, and regulatory filings.

Interpret and operationalize complex reinsurance transactions, including coinsurance, funds withheld, and modified coinsurance arrangements.

Account for and record initial reinsurance transaction balances and support transition activities into ongoing business-as-usual operations.

Support Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) reporting requirements, including Bermuda STAT and Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) reporting.

Design, implement, document, and maintain internal controls and processes in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.

Ensure adherence to applicable accounting standards, financial reporting requirements, and regulatory obligations.

Prepare supporting documentation and assist with internal and external audit requests.

Utilize process mapping and workflow design tools to document, analyze, and improve reinsurance processes and operational effectiveness.

Collaborate cross-functionally with Reinsurance Administration, Actuarial, Investments, Risk Management, and other business partners.

Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies within reinsurance accounting activities.

Support special projects, strategic initiatives, and other ad hoc assignments as needed.
The base salary range for this position is $91,289 - $140,000. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. In addition to base pay, Equitable provides compensation to reward performance with base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short-term incentive compensation opportunities. Eligibility for these programs depends on level and functional area of responsibility.
