About the Role

Respiratory Therapist – Ventilator Support

The Respiratory Therapist Vent is a Field Clinician who delivers specialized respiratory care to ventilator-dependent patients in home and alternate care settings. This role combines hands-on patient care, education, and collaboration with physicians and care teams to support safe, coordinated, and high-quality outcomes outside the hospital.

Core Responsibilities

· Maintain and apply advanced knowledge of respiratory equipment, ventilators, HME products, and related payer and regulatory guidelines

· Perform clinical assessments and reassessments, including review of ventilator patient records, compliance data, and care plans; communicate findings and recommendations to physicians and referral sources

· Participate in discharge planning and execution for highly technical and ventilator-dependent patients, ensuring smooth transitions to the home setting

· Demonstrate and instruct patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals on ventilator units, supplies, and proper equipment use

· Provide clinical follow-up with physicians and referral sources regarding patient status and tolerance of therapy

· Conduct clinical in-services for hospital staff, referral sources, and other professionals on equipment and clinically related topics

· Adhere to all patient confidentiality, HIPAA, PPE, infection control, and hazardous materials handling requirements

· Accurately and timely document all patient care activities, assessments, procedures, communications, and outcomes in accordance with company standards

· Maintain complete and up-to-date patient records, including prescriptions, plans of care, treatment plans, delivery tickets, and required checklists

· Ensure documentation supports quality tracking, data trending, reimbursement, authorizations (including ventilator referrals), and regulatory compliance

· Utilize continuing education, in-services, and professional inquiry to maintain and expand role-related competencies

· Promote AdaptHealth through program development, operational support, educational coordination, and engagement with referral sources

· Act as a clinical resource, collaborating proactively with peers and interdisciplinary teams to resolve issues and optimize patient outcomes

· Ensure accurate, clear, and timely verbal and written communication related to patient care and operational needs

· Participate in on-call rotation during non-business hours in accordance with company policy

· Complete all required compliance training and adhere to AdaptHealth’s Compliance Program

· Perform other related duties as assigned

· Demonstrated experience providing respiratory care to ventilator patients, including ventilator management, airway clearance, and oxygen therapy

· Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and adapt care as needed

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with patients, caregivers, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams

· Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple responsibilities, and remain flexible in a fast-paced, changing healthcare environment

· Technical aptitude with Microsoft Office and clinical systems, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and understand regulatory requirements at the local, state, and federal levels
