Market Access Manager
at Merck
Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Company is investing to make Market Access a true competitive differentiator. As Market Access Lead, you will shape access strategy for our most important upcoming therapies—securing pricing, reimbursement, and formulary inclusion that accelerate patient access and drive sustainable growth. This role is critical to successfully launching the company’s robust, multi-therapy pipeline in Hong Kong and Macau, ensuring our innovative medicines reach patients swiftly and sustainably. You will partner closely with cross-functional leaders and external stakeholders to bring innovative medicines to our patients in areas of high unmet need, translating evidence into payer value and advancing the company’s mission to save and improve lives.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
-
Lead market access strategy for new product pipeline and launches: define bold, evidence-based access pathways and pricing frameworks that reflect both payer needs and patient value, with clear execution and measurement plans.
-
Translate evidence into payer value: synthesize clinical, health economic, and real-world data to create compelling, payer-focused value propositions; lead the preparation of high-quality public enlistment submissions for innovative medicines.
-
Design innovative access models: develop outcome-based approaches, contracting strategies, and tender frameworks that balance affordability, sustainability, and speed to access.
-
Influence the ecosystem: build and maintain trusted relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., HA key stakeholders, scientific leaders, hospital procurement); lead pricing discussions and contract negotiations.
-
Anticipate and shape the environment: monitor market dynamics; conduct scenario planning and impact assessments to guide strategic decision, mitigate risk, and unlock new access opportunities.
-
Orchestrate cross-functional launch readiness: partner with commercial, medical and regulatory teams to align access deliverables and value messaging; drive governance approvals with compliant documentation.
-
Optimize performance: tracking access KPIs and continuously improving contracting, tender strategies, and payer engagement to expand patient access to therapies
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE
-
Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Healthcare, Pharmacy, or a related field
-
5+ years of relevant pharmaceutical experience; ideally 2+ years in market access with a track record of public enlistment for innovative medicines in Hong Kong and Macau
-
In-depth knowledge of Hong Kong and Macau public hospital systems, including tender/enlistment procedures and relevant policies; prior relationships with key HA and CPO stakeholders are an advantage
-
Solid understanding of market access, reimbursement, and health economics, with proven practical application
-
Proven success in developing and executing evidence-based strategies and showcase that quantify and communicate the economic value of therapies
-
Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-functional partnering
-
Effective leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and navigate ambiguity

Candidates with extensive experience may be considered for a more senior position
