Abalone Bio is a preclinical-stage biotechnology company developing antibody drugs for G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), ion channels, and other membrane protein targets. We are developing our own therapeutics as well as partnering with pharmaceutical companies to discover drug candidates for their targets. Who are we looking for:

Abalone Bio is seeking a collaborative and highly motivated Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to join our team to support screening and characterization of antibodies. The successful candidate will perform experiments to produce and assess the function and developability of antibody drug candidates. This is an opportunity to play a role in discovering and developing rare functional antibody drugs for previously untreatable diseases.

Responsibilities:

● Execute cell based and biochemical assays to assess the antibody function using a variety of 96- and 384-well plate formats

● Characterize antibodies for downstream developability including aggregation and stability

● Create and maintain mammalian cell lines for use in assays

● Execute molecular and biochemical techniques including cloning, expressing and purifying antibodies for protein production

● Analyze scientific data and present results to project teams

● Maintain accurate and thorough records

Qualifications:

Education and experience:

● BS/BA or MS degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology or a related field

● 3+ years of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry working with large biomolecules, preferably antibodies

Skills:

● Mammalian cell culture using sterile technique

● Cell-based assays (HTRF, ELISA etc) using 96- and 384-well formats

● Molecular biology techniques including PCR, gibson assembly, bacterial transformation, DNA purification

● Strong communication skills

● Excellent organizational and time management skills

● Flexibility and ability to quickly learn new skills and knowledge on the job

Huge plus:

● Working knowledge of GPCR biology and HTRF assays to assess GPCR signaling

● Experience in protein production and purification using mammalian cell cultures

● Experience with making stable mammalian cell lines for assays

● Working knowledge of data analysis using Graphpad Prism
