Lower School Judaic Studies Hebrew Learning Specialist

Abraham Joshua Heschel School is seeking a full-time experienced Hebrew Learning Specialist in our lower school division for the 2026-27 school year. The Hebrew Learning Specialist supports students in Grades 1-5 in developing foundational and advanced skills in Ivrit and, where appropriate, Judaic Studies. This educator works closely with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to ensure that students with diverse learning profiles are supported in accessing Hebrew language instruction with confidence and success. The ideal candidate brings warmth, intellectual curiosity, and a deep commitment to Hebrew language acquisition, along with expertise in supporting students with learning differences.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide small-group and/or individual instruction in Ivrit for students requiring additional support

Develop and implement targeted intervention plans focused on decoding, reading fluency, writing, vocabulary development, and language comprehension

Conduct and interpret informal and formal assessments to guide instruction

Collaborate regularly with Hebrew/Judaic Studies teachers to adapt curriculum and differentiate instruction

Partner with General Studies Learning Specialists to ensure coordinated student support

Communicate clearly and thoughtfully with families regarding student progress

Participate actively in team meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives
Qualifications:

Native Hebrew speaker (required)

Degree in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, Education, or a related field

Minimum of two years of experience as a Learning Specialist

Strong knowledge of language-based learning differences and evidence-based intervention strategies

Experience supporting students in second-language acquisition

Ability to design structured, explicit, and multisensory language instruction

Flexible, collaborative, and reflective practitioner

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
