PT CCR Instructor

This general position is responsible for providing instruction in the Adult
Basic Education (ABE) program, and/or the Adult Secondary Education (ASE)
program which includes High School Equivalency (HSE) classes, and/or the
English Language Acquisition (ELA) program or any other College and Career
Readiness class for the purpose of progressing students to a higher level of
education. 1. Be present in classroom and ready to begin at the class start
time. Provide advance notice of absence to coordinator and ensure adequate
coverage of class.
2. Completes registration paperwork, completes appropriate LEIS forms and
submits to coordinator within two (2) business days. (see CCR Instructor
Manual.
3. Prepares daily lesson plans in advance based on NC Adult Basic Education
Content Standards and CASAS Student Performance by Competency forms for
individual and group instruction. Use a variety of teaching techniques and
mediums, utilizing contextualized instruction, and other methods presented at
NC Community Colleges System (NCCCS) office Core Credential or Specialty
trainings.
4. Ensures class time is used as instructional time, engaging all students
respectively.
5. Manages classroom in accordance with CCR Classroom Agreement and Student
Incident Report Procedures, enforcing consistently with all students and
personal attendants if applicable.
6. Maintains attendance roster using ADVANSYS on a daily basis and
submits to coordinator at the end of the class week or as directed by
coordinator. Ensures the accuracy and integrity of student hours reported in
accordance with auditing requirements.
7. Makes immediate contact with students when absences occur, and
documents results of contacts in permanent folder. Reports excessive, ongoing
absences to coordinator.
8. Works with coordinator and orientation and Retention specialist to ensure
that
class enrollment is sufficient to justify offering the class. Should
enrollment/attendance drop below an acceptable level (as deemed by department
head), class hours will be altered, or the class may be cancelled. Instructor
contract will be altered or canceled accordingly.
9. Maintains a knowledge of CCR Instructor Manual , follows procedures
found within, and has available for review by SCC staff, state auditors and
substitutes as needed.
10. Maintains classroom and supplies and submits supply requests to
coordinator as
needed.
11. Completes a minimum of 12 hours of staff development related to position
per year and reports each activity to coordinator as completed. Completes
required annual training.
12. Promptly sign instructional contracts and submits to coordinator and/or
data manager as requested.
13. Maintains appropriate communication with staff – coordinator, data
manager, department head, etc. as needed, copying coordinator on all work-
related emails. Reviews and responds to email and other communications from
coordinator and other SCC staff within 24 hours of receipt.
14. Completes additional duties as assigned by coordinator and/or department
head. 1. Bachelor’s Degree required.
2.Proficiency in computer applications to include spreadsheets, word
processing, email programs and others as designated by supervisor.
3.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and organizational
skills.
4. Teaching experience in a formal setting (K-12, Adult/Higher Education)
