Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of equipment shop activities related to the diagnosing and repairing of mechanical problems in motorized and specialty construction equipment. Diagnoses, repairs or replaces parts as necessary to maintain all automotive gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, exhaust systems, cylinder heads, valves, timing belts, and cooling systems. Performs wiring repairs, brake jobs, and tune ups when required on vehicles. Diagnoses the repairs or replacement of parts on all diesel-powered equipment assigned to SCDOT.
