Direct Support Professional Sat 3:30pm-11:30pm

Position Summary

Working one-on-one with each individual, the Residential Direct Support Professional will assess his/her/they needs and tend to them accordingly to foster a positive, encouraging environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Be supportive, positive and encouraging in meeting the needs of those with developmental disabilities as you assist them in working on gaining further independence.
  • Encourage and foster individuals’ preferred hobbies, interests and self-determined choices.
  • Assist with and work to strengthen the individuals’ daily living needs, including but not limited to: nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication, and socialization skills
  • Help individuals to bathe, groom and dress, eat and drink if necessary, always working to improve self-reliance and independence.
  • Work with the Individual being served to create goals, track progress and report findings to superiors.
  • Encourage the Individuals involvement in the local community and encourage community inclusion based on their interests and preferences.
  • Develop meaningful relationships and connections with clients to make them feel cared for and included in the community.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols as designated.
  • Assist the Individuals in maintaining a sanitary and tidy home.
  • Attend continuing education courses and training as the role requires.
  • Be a compassionate, patient, and encouraging support professional at all times

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Comfortable working independently and can consistently make good judgments that benefit the client.
  • Flexible, with a keen ability to handle stress well.
  • Friendly disposition with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Computer literate and technologically well informed.
  • Experience tracking and recording information, preferred.
  • Enjoy working with people who have developmental disabilities to improve their quality of life.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and passionate about helping those in need.
  • Ability to move and stand for prolonged periods and frequently perform physically demanding tasks
  • Employment is contingent upon passing background checks (OPWDD, The Justice Center,etc.) and successful completion of AABR’s Orientation Training program.
  • Current certification in SCIP, CPR/First Aid and AMAP for Full Time Position.
  • Current certification in SCIP, CPR & First Aid for a Part Time Position.
