Engineering & Maintenance Intern

The Engineering & Maintenance Intern provides support to the engineering and maintenance functions by collecting, organizing, reporting data, and providing project improvement recommendations. Support process and equipment designs by collaborating with internal/external engineering teams. The Engineering and Maintenance Manager may also assign other relevant projects as needed.
Job Description
- Provide solutions and recommendations for technical problems.
- Create mechanical solutions for typical engineering or maintenance problems.
- Scope work creation.
- Assist in directing Maintenance craft personnel and/or third-party contractors.
- Calculate torque, strength, or power requirements for mechanical solutions.
- Create engineering BOMs.
- Creation of Engineering Change Notices.
- New part qualification / testing (Lab and Field).
- Evaluate equipment to industry standards and specifications.
- Research applicable test methods based on industry standards.
- Assist with physical and administrative preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Assist with repairs on equipment as needed.
- Tracking downtime issues dealing with maintenance related items.
- Assist in generating and executing a preventative maintenance schedule for existing and new assets/equipment.
- Data and historical record management and reporting.
- Maintenance systems management.
- Work independently under limited supervision (self-management).
- Documentation of work schedule and work tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Be enrolled in formal schooling in a Mechatronics or similar Industrial Maintenance course (e.g., certification program, technical/community college) OR recently graduated from such a program or course within the last 6 months.

Basic understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals (physics, materials, pneumatics).
- Must have strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel & Word, and Adobe.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Demonstrable CAD expertise, preferably Solidworks.

Knowledge of electronic Maintenance Management System.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Good project management skills.

Experience with product manuals (e.g., reading and applying knowledge to make repairs).
- Experience with mechanical set up (lubrication, sprockets, belts, chains).
- Experience with troubleshooting (e.g., diagnostics, problem solving, etc.).

Experience with machine shop skills (e.g., hydraulic press, drill press, hand tools).

Strong adaptability and capacity to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to create detailed reports and presentations.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Dynamics 365, Power BI, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with mechanical systems (e.g., gear boxes, chains, seals, bearings).
- Experience with basic electrical systems (e.g., starters, fuses, contacts, relays, motors).
- Experience with conveyers (air cylinders, diverters, sensors, motor/speed controls).
- Experience with hydraulic systems (high pressure cylinders, pumps, valves, troubleshooting).
- Experience with pneumatics (solenoids, cylinders, motor brakes, reading, troubleshooting).
- Experience with pneumatics/air compression (e.g., valves, cylinders, etc.).
- Experience with preventative maintenance.
