Principal Software Engineer (Real-Time Payments)
Overview
Mastercard’s RTP platform powers real‑time payment systems that operate as
critical financial infrastructure across multiple markets, including the
Philippines. These platforms demand exceptional levels of resiliency,
correctness, and operational discipline.
The Principal Software Engineer is a senior individual contributor role within the RTP Engineering & Support organization. This role works closely with engineering leadership to provide deep technical expertise, architectural guidance, and hands‑on execution across the platform.
Role
You will own the technical integrity of critical services and lead by example
through hands‑on engineering and operational support.
Key Responsibilities & Outcomes
Own design and implementation decisions for complex, high‑impact platform
components.
Provide technical leadership during major incidents and complex production
troubleshooting.
Drive improvements across performance, scalability, fault tolerance, and
observability.
Raise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, and
mentoring.
Partner with DevOps and Operations teams to improve deployment safety and
operational readiness.
Influence long‑term platform evolution through technical credibility and sound
judgment.
All About You
Deep hands‑on experience building and operating high‑throughput, low‑latency
distributed systems.
Strong production mindset with proven experience resolving complex live‑site
issues.
Broad technical expertise across application, messaging, and platform layers.
Strong technical expertise in Java, Spring.
Expertise in Functional programming languages is a plus
Experience working in regulated or high‑availability environments.
Ability to influence without authority and communicate complex technical
concepts clearly.
Demonstrates Mastercard expectations for technical excellence, ownership, and
collaboration.
