Job type: Part Time
Hours: 10am to 4pm Monday-Thursday (hours can be flexible as needed)
Position Summary:
Prepares and scans medical records to ensure that records are available as
soon after discharge. Ensures that records are scanned as accurately as
possible for accessibility. Provide cross-coverage for HIM operations as
needed, including front desk reception, ROI processing, and coordination of
chart deficiencies and suspensions.
- Runs all discharge reports on a daily basis from the previous day discharges.
- Pick up discharged patient charts.
- Prepare and scan Inpatient, Outpatient Surgery, Outpatient Clinic(s), ER, and loose material for scanning.
- Place helpdesk ticket when necessary and troubleshoot with support team for any issues with scanning application and/or HPF.
- Inform Management regarding any missing discharged patient charts from previous day.
- Work with departments to retrieve the charts.
- Follow corporate retention policy to ensure paper charts are sent timely for destruction on monthly basis.
- Merge duplicate medical record numbers as needed.
- Serve as backup support for various HIM functions including front desk reception, Release of Information (ROI) processing, and Chart Deficiency and Suspension.
- Support physicians in addressing delinquent chart completion and troubleshooting system-related concerns.
- Run monthly and quarterly reports
- Assist other departments in the facility to send and retrieve files from external storage.
- Keep scanning machine and workstation clean and organized.
Minimum Education:
High school graduate
Minimum Experience/Skills:
Basic medical terminology desirable
One (1) year experience in an acute care HIM environment preferred
