As a Senior Casualty Claims handler you will be responsible for handling claims that occur out of our Casualty classes. You will be expected to ensure the proper servicing and settlement of claims within your designated authority. Working in partnership with claims management whilst at all times maintaining the highest standard of technical file handling and customer service.

Job responsibilities:

  • Claims responsibility for a portfolio of Casualty claims. Portfolio will include international jurisdictions, lead/follow and primary/excess.

  • The handler will handle Casualty claims arising for all product lines including; General Liability, Environmental and Life Science.

  • Assess and adjust claims in relation to policy coverage. Ensure that coverage is accurately assessed and communicated appropriately and promptly.

  • Ensure that reserving is correctly maintained, properly managed and audited.

  • Appoint and control loss surveyors, counsel and other experts as required, to ensure timely intervention and mitigation of claims.

  • Ensure that claims are handled promptly, fairly and with integrity in accordance with Hartford claims management guidelines. Ensure timely intervention and mitigation of losses.

  • Ensure that all claims are diarised and managed proactively.

  • Ensure that all potential coverage, liability and quantum issues are identified and pursued appropriately and expeditiously.

  • Maintain the highest standards of communication with claims management and underwriting to ensure that information on significant claims, large loss reports and claims trends are shared expeditiously.

  • Review London market claims and advices within system and maintain accurate claims records at all times.

  • Attend market claim meetings as required.

  • Liaise with Underwriters, brokers and policyholders on claims issues and driving successful claims outcomes for all parties.

  • Act as point person for the Casualty Claims portfolio: liaising with stakeholders, attending UW meetings, providing claims portfolio reports/feedback, creating/implementing claims management solutions to key accounts, assisting with policy wordings and other portfolio tasks that may be required.

  • Management of Casualty large losses, preparation of Casualty Watchlist documents/meetings and contribution to Claims large loss and trend feedback.

  • Providing technical support and training to junior members of the team.

  • Assist with reinsurance issues.

  • Assist with auditing and oversight of claims DCAs and external providers as required.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements relating to claims handling, in particular TCF.

**Capabilities & Experience **

  • Strong relevant claims handling experience with a London Market insurance company/ Lloyd’s Syndicate.

  • Experience/ technical knowledge of at least one of The Hartford’s Casualty classes; including General Liability. Environmental and Life Science.

  • Working knowledge of ECF2 and CLA principles

  • DOCOsoft writeback platform experience desired

  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload and meeting deadlines

  • Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external customers

  • Knowledge of FCA / PRA and Lloyd’s rules and guidelines

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Excellent negotiating skills

  • Willingness to continue to develop knowledge of Insurance and related issues through formal and informal learning / exams

This role will be based in London, UK and you are required to have the necessary right to work details prior to application.
