Mechanical Piping Estimator

We are a full-service mechanical HVAC, plumbing, and specialty piping contractor that offers design and construction services for a variety of markets. Our customers include commercial, medical, and technology, as well as municipalities and government agencies.

Job Summary

The Estimator is responsible for performing detailed quantity takeoffs and material assessments for mechanical piping systems across commercial projects. This role supports preconstruction and estimating efforts by delivering accurate, timely, and well-documented takeoff data to ensure competitive and profitable bids.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties will likely be assigned.

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs of mechanical piping systems, including:
    • Hydronic piping
    • HVAC piping systems
    • Process piping and specialty systems (as applicable)
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, narratives, and addenda to identify scope requirements.
  • Analyze plans to determine material quantities such as equipment, pipe, fittings, valves, insulation, supports, and specialties.
  • Utilize digital takeoff software (Bluebeam and Trimble) to complete accurate measurements.
  • Coordinate with estimators from other trades, project managers, and engineers to clarify scope gaps or discrepancies.
  • Provide organized takeoff summaries and backup documentation for estimate reviews.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining unit pricing databases and labor assumptions.
  • Track drawing revisions and update takeoffs as project documents evolve.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and constructability issues during the takeoff process.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Strong understanding of mechanical piping systems and construction methods
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

PREFERRED

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in takeoff and PDF markup software
  • Background working with mechanical contractors or in preconstruction
  • Knowledge of labor productivity factors and installation methods
  • Field experience in mechanical or piping installation

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years related experience in the construction industry.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation.
  • Working knowledge of state and city regulations and guidelines.

  • Workweek consists of four ten-hour workdays.
