Environmental Test Supervisor
at Astranis
Astranis builds advanced satellites for high
orbits, expanding humanity’s reach into the solar system. Today, Astranis
satellites provide dedicated, secure networks to highly-sophisticated
customers across the globe— large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the
US military. With five satellites on orbit and many more set to launch soon,
the company is servicing a backlog of more than $1 billion of commercial
contracts.
Astranis is the preferred satellite communications partner
for buyers with stringent requirements for uptime, data security, network
visibility, and customization. Astranis has raised over $750 million from some
of the world’s best investors, from Andreessen Horowitz to Blackrock and
Fidelity, and employs a team of 450 engineers and entrepreneurs. Astranis
designs, builds, and operates its satellites out of its 153,000 sq. ft.
headquarters in Northern California, USA.
Environmental Test Supervisor
Astranis is building small, low-cost telecommunications satellites to connect the four billion people on Earth who currently do not have access to the internet. By owning and operating its satellites and offering them to customers as a turnkey solution, Astranis is able to provide bandwidth at a fraction of the cost of legacy providers, unlocking previously unreachable markets.
As the Supervisor, Environmental Test, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, readiness, and execution of the Environmental Test Lab to support testing of spacecraft, sub-assemblies, and components in simulated space environments.
You will lead and develop a high-performing test technician team and ensure the lab operates safely, efficiently, and at high quality to meet program and production goals. The goal of producing 24/year of our next-generation Omega spacecraft relies heavily on our ability to scale test operations and increase throughput without sacrificing quality. If you are a hands-on environmental test leader who thrives in a fast-paced, execution-focused environment, this role may be for you.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day activities of the test lab and maintain operational readiness to support 24/7 operations and critical test campaigns
- Lead and develop the test technician team, setting clear expectations, driving accountability, and supporting ongoing skill growth
- Own detailed test scheduling and execution, aligning with program priorities and engineering needs to meet milestones and deadlines
- Drive test execution quality and consistency through robust procedures, training, and technician oversight
- Oversee operation, maintenance, and calibration of environmental test equipment including vibration shakers, thermal chambers, and thermal vacuum chambers
- Partner closely with the cross functional team to improve test processes, increase throughput, and support development of new lab capabilities
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks across equipment, staffing, and processes to improve lab efficiency and utilization
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety, quality, and accountability across the lab
- Implement and uphold high standards of 5S practices to maximize efficiency and productivity
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in testing of electronics, electro-mechanical assemblies, or integrated systems
- 3+ years of experience leading technicians in a fast-paced and complex test or production environment
- Demonstrated ownership of test lab or production operations, including scheduling, equipment utilization, and team performance
- Strong understanding of thermal, thermal vacuum, and vibration testing
- Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime and/or weekends as needed, including support of 24/7 operations for critical test campaigns
Bonus
- Direct management experience of engineers, specialists, and/or technicians
- Experience with manufacturing execution systems (MES), test automation software, or data/telemetry platforms
- Experience scaling operations (team size, equipment capacity, or throughput)
- Experience in a fast-paced, iterative design or manufacturing environment within aerospace, automotive, or consumer electronics industries
