Middle School & High School Assistant Librarian

Abraham Joshua Heschel School is seeking a full-time assistant librarian to support the middle school and high school departments.

Abraham Joshua Heschel School, located in New York City, is an independent, pluralistic Jewish Day School, N-12, unaffiliated with any single movement or synagogue. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising middle and high school students across two library spaces.

  • Covering, repairing, and shelving books and cataloging new books

  • Helping to weed outdated materials

  • Circulating books using OPALS software

The ideal candidate will

  • Demonstrate a love of books and reading

  • Enjoy working with young people in small group and one-on-one settings

  • Support student research, by guiding students in using research databases and answering drop-in reference questions

  • Help create displays, bulletin boards, and other readers advisory

  • Knowledge of Hebrew and/or Judaica topics preferred

  • This can be an ideal position for someone pursuing their MLS or interested in gaining experience in school librarianship.

The full-time equivalent salary range is $55,000 - $65,000, depending on years of experience.
