Quality Assurance Specialist
Overview
The Quality Specialist is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Quality Assurance and the on-site testing laboratory. This role serves as a subject matter expert in quality systems and processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and supporting customer expectations. Accuracy, organization, and attention to detail are critical in this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously improve the quality program to ensure systems meet customer specifications and company requirements.
- Lead and manage laboratory functions, including:
- Calibration of lab equipment (acting as SME or vendor point-of-contact).
- Oversight of the proficiency testing program.
- Managing Certificates of Conformance/Analysis (COC/COA) processes for incoming materials and finished goods.
- Serving as ERP system subject matter expert within the Quality department.
- Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to evaluate standards, quality, and reliability.
- Execute validation and verification requirements for the Milwaukee site per SQF Code.
- Train, coach, and guide employees on testing and inspection activities.
- Provide quality training and onboarding for new hires.
- Expedite disposition of non-conforming materials (raw, in-process, customer returns) on quality hold.
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints, including managing return material authorization processes.
- Act as designated backup for the Quality Manager, including serving as backup SQF Practitioner.
- Ensure product safety and compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with plant operations, sales, and customer service teams on quality-related issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Background / Experience
- 1-5 years of experience in manufacturing quality assurance, preferably in packaging.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Certified SQF Practitioner.
- Strong knowledge of quality assurance principles.
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to thrive in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong typing and documentation skills.
