Temporary Program Staff, Learning and Engagement

at Museum of Modern Art


The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for twelve Temporary Program Assistants to support the Museum's Learning and Engagement programming, including the third annual Family Festival taking place from February 13 - February 17, 2027, Artist Parties, and Family Saturdays.

Reports to: Department Manager, Learning and Engagement.

Salary: This position pays a fixed rate of $26.75 per hour.

Job Type: Temporary, September 14, 2026 through March 14, 2027

Responsibilities:

  • Attends relevant preparation meetings and trainings.
  • Familiarizes themselves with the general Museum layout, exhibition program, and Learning and Engagement programs.
  • Greets program participants, assists with check-in, distributes gallery activity or workshop supplies, supports wayfinding and group management during programs.
  • Ensures smooth flow of visitors by proactively guiding visitors and managing queues and activity capacity limits.
  • Proactively and warmly welcomes guests.
  • Resolves general complaints from guests and members on site.
  • Answers general questions about the Museum and its programming.
  • Assists with setup and cleanup before and after programs.
  • Assists with any pre-program prep as needed.
  • Helps maintain organization, cleanliness and preparedness with supplies and relevant materials at all activity posts.

  • Conducts in-person research on Museum visitors, through interviews and observational studies, to collect data on a variety of topics related to MoMA's visitor experience.

  • Performs any duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with the general public in a customer service environment required. Previous experience interacting with families and youth audiences preferred.
  • Proficiency with languages in addition to English helpful.
  • Proficiency with using Google workspace.
  • Highly organized self-starter with the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and de-escalation experience.
  • Interest in arts and experience with artmaking and artmaking materials preferred, but not required.
  • Physical Demands: the employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time. The employee is required to work in a public environment with face-to-face contact with the public.
  • Availability and ability to commit to an irregular schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Must be available full-time September 16-18, 2026 and February 13-17, 2027. Hours not guaranteed.
  • This position is in scope of MoMA's Protection of Minors policy, therefore, any offer of employment for this position will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check.
