TITLE: Attorney 2 or 3

Note: The successful applicant may be offered either an Attorney 2 or Attorney 3 position, based on knowledge, experience and qualifications.

DEFINITION:

Performs legal work involving examining and preparing legal documents, interpreting laws and regulations, rendering legal advice and counsel, consulting with opposing counsel, conducting hearings, and preparing cases for agency hearings and/or trials.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Is administratively responsible to the agency General Counsel.

Works in a collegial relationship with the agency's division directors and staff.

** FUNCTIONS:**

Advises staff and the public on legal matters and the interpretation and application of agency regulations and state and federal laws.

Prepares legal opinions, briefs, contracts, proposals, and reports.

Conducts and/or assists in conducting administrative, regulatory, evidentiary, and enforcement hearings.

Researches points of law involved in hearings to determine the validity and completeness of cases cited.

Investigates alleged law violations and prepares reports of findings.

Performs related work as assigned.

Depending on experience and demonstrated aptitude assignments, may include Contract Management and Procurement responsibilities, contract monitoring and advising on matter associated with compliance with Public Information Act.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
