*GENERAL DESCRIPTION*

Performs complex (journey-level) network work involving the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of associated equipment within the agency’s local and/or wide area network (LAN and WAN). Supports, monitors, and implements TJJD information technology initiatives through close coordination with local and field Information Technology (IT) staff, maintenance staff, and stakeholders to configure, deploy, and/or repair key TJJD infrastructure components. Provides relevant information to the lead of enterprise systems and support and division management at the Central Office. Work involves adherence to agency standards, policies, and procedures to maintain the security and integrity of the TJJD statewide communication, network, safety, and security systems.

Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May require travel, working in excess of 40 hours per work week, and be on-call.

*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*

Installs infrastructure equipment, software and related tools to ensure optimal functioning of the network and security systems while complying with legal code or standards. Performs installation and configuration of LAN/WAN/security-related applications/code to ensure compatibility among systems.

Monitors local and wide area sites to resolve LAN/WAN performance/communications and security system problems anywhere from core data centers to service recipients.

Performs installation and configuration of LAN/WAN/security-related hardware and software to comply with legal code or standards and ensure compatibility among systems.

Collaborates with Data Center Services staff as needed regarding technical aspects of the TJJD network infrastructure.

Troubleshoots malfunctioning network hardware and software issues to promote prompt return to service for customer use during an outage.

Ensures inventory records for technology equipment at assigned sites are updated, including identifying the location of communication/network/surveillance equipment and equipment issued to staff.

Maintains TJJD infrastructure technology systems to meet installation schedules and budget constraints and to deliver quality operations. Makes recommendations regarding availability of assigned LAN/WAN/security system to include procurement of equipment and shut down of network.

Configures, operates and provides ongoing maintenance and support of switches, routers, firewalls, and virtual private network (VPN). Configures and supports Layer 2 switching protocols, virtual local area network (VLAN), 802.1q tagging, Layer 3 routing protocols, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and demonstrates working knowledge of multicast.

Provides guidance and technical expertise to IT staff to ensure proper support is provided to staff and youth. Provide cross-training to other staff within area of responsibility and users of LAN/WAN/security equipment to maintain daily operations during absences.

Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.

Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures:

  • Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible.
  • Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested time frames.

Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.

Will be required to travel up to 30% of the time.
