Civil Engineer I

Under general supervision performs a variety of engineering duties associated with the planning, location, design or construction of civil engineering projects.
Because the Authority has a responsibility to serve the public
24 hours per day, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as
conditions demand, and may be called in on short notice during power outages
and other emergencies.

- Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to help plan and design projects.
- Performs preliminary engineering studies, conducting location or foundation investigations and preparing plans and specifications.
- Serves as construction engineer on the less complex projects or assists a higher level engineer on substantial portions of complex projects.
- May calculate cost of project based on analysis of collected data.
- Assists in the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project.
- Assists is preparing estimates, plans and specifications for minor plant additions and modifications.

Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.

Knowledge of the tools and equipment and their skilled use as required in the work.
- Knowledge of the layout, construction functions as applied to construction work.
- Knowledge of occupational rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work.
- Knowledge of administration of construction contracts.
- Ability to prepare drawings and sketches of generating plants and distribution lines. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and 1 - 4 years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering.
