Utility Repairer (PDS)

Maintain City irrigation systems including the adjustment and control of irrigation schedules, maintenance and repair of irrigation lines, sprinklers and valves and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include but are not limited
to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions
of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Operate and program electromechanical and digital controllers to insure proper soil moisture content for the growing of healthy turf and other plants; conduct soil moisture checks and adjust controller accordingly.
- Perform field electrical repairs to inoperative controllers, electric irrigation valves and lines.
- Inspect assigned area on a daily basis and perform a systematic check of irrigation system and make adjustments, repairs or replacement of irrigation components.
- Monitor weather and soil conditions and place automatic controller on stand-by mode, shut-down, or re-adjust accordingly.
- Performs line pressure checks; make adjustments to pressure pumps.
- Procure supplies, materials, equipment and manpower in the renovation or installation of irrigation systems.
- Install soil moisture sensors to ensure efficient application of irrigation water.
- Make adjustments, additions, or modifications to existing irrigation systems as needed insure healthy plant growth.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Estimate time, materials and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisition materials as required.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below
may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours vocational
training in construction, landscaping, irrigation, or facilities maintenance;
*and
Two (2) years irrigation system maintenance experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by
date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of
hire.Environmental:
Shop and field environment; exposure to electrical energy, inclement weather
conditions and dust; work around construction equipment.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions require maintaining physical condition
necessary for standing, bending, crouching, or walking for prolonged periods;
light to moderate lifting and carrying; operating motorized equipment and
vehicles.
