3rd Cl Power Plant Engineer - CoGen

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is seeking a motivated, experienced and licensed candidate for the position of Third-Class Power Plant Engineer Co-Gen at the Wrentham Developmental Center (WDC). The Power Plant Engineer is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing high pressure boilers and auxiliary machinery. The Engineer ensures that each assigned power plant is operated safely and efficiently.

Job Responsibilities (The duties and responsibilities stated are general summary and not all inclusive):

- Operate a second-class co-generation power plant under the supervision of the Chief Engineer.

- Maintain, operate, repair and clean power plant equipment such as three Cleaver Brooks boilers, Jenbacher gas generator, HRSG, Selective Catalytic Reduction system, deaerator, feedwater, and condensate pumps, receiver, and surge tanks.

- Observe the operation of the plant and make necessary adjustments.

- Respond to emergencies and equipment breakdown.

- Read meters and gauges at specified intervals to insure proper temperature, pressure, water levels, etc.

- Keep power plant logs by recording readings, steam and power generated, fuel usage, maintenance performed and similar data to keep accurate records.

- Responsible for testing boiler water and returns. Add chemicals when necessary for proper mix to insure correct balance.

Required Qualifications:

Possession of a Third Class or higher Stationary Engineers License based on the standards established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General laws.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Knowledge of the principles of electrical generating equipment.

- Understanding of pipe fitting techniques.

- Skilled using power tools and equipment required in maintaining and repairing power plant equipment.

- Ability to understand and follow written and/or oral work instructions.

Special Qualifications:

- This position is in a program that operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The Department of Developmental Services requires employees in this position to be able to perform mandatory overtime when circumstances dictate the need.

- Designated as an “EMERGENCY” position in the Department of Developmental Service’s Emergency Plan. This means that whenever the Governor declares that the Commonwealth is in a state of emergency, you will be required to report to work.

Schedule Information:_ _

Full-time – 40-hour weekly position

Sunday 6:00 am to 2:00 p.m.

Monday 6:00 am to 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m

Tuesday 10:00 pm to 6:00 am

Thursday: 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Days Off: Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Flexibility with work schedule will be required for this position.
