Why does this role exist?
The Freelance Recruitment Specialist is primarily responsible for end-to-end recruitment and hiring of qualified global candidates to fill the specialized manpower requirements of our Boutique clients. This role focuses on sourcing, interviewing, and endorsing candidates for hard-to-fill, niche positions while ensuring that standard recruitment and selection processes are observed consistently.
WHAT WINNING LOOKS LIKE
- You are running independently at 75–80% capacity within your first 30 days — handling assigned requisitions without constant check-ins.
- You consistently hit 24–48 hour turnaround windows on endorsements, including on niche and hard-to-fill roles.
- You conduct 2–4 structured candidate interviews per shift and your endorsement quality earns consistent sign-off from Recruitment Manager and Boutique clients.
- You source candidates using Boolean search across LinkedIn and other channels without needing to be guided through each new requisition.
- You proactively communicate blockers and status updates over Slack — no requisition goes dark because you were waiting for someone to ask.
- Your win rate — onboardings versus total recommendations sent — meets or exceeds team benchmarks within your first full month.
WHO THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR
- You have never worked a night shift in a recruitment role and don't have a concrete plan for sustaining one long-term. Prior night shift recruitment experience is a hard requirement.
- You have 5 or more years of recruitment experience and are firmly set in how things should be done. Highly tenured candidates consistently struggle adapting to Magic's approach.
- You need real-time manager support to move forward on active requisitions. During nights, leadership is largely offline — you make the calls.
- You are taking this role as a bridge while actively looking for something else. We need genuine alignment with the night shift schedule and role direction, not short-term availability.
- You cannot build a Boolean search string on the spot. Sourcing is a daily core function, not an occasional one.
- You have no hands-on ATS or CRM experience. You will be inside a recruitment system from day one.
- You are not actually available for a permanent 11 PM – 8 AM Manila time schedule. This is not rotating and is not negotiable.
- You measure your performance by how busy you were, not by what you delivered. This role is tracked by win rate, turnaround, and placement quality.
Core Responsibilities
Sourcing & Screening
- Source candidates for 3–4 daily requisitions using Boolean search, LinkedIn Recruiter, job boards, and other sourcing channels.
- Review resumes and qualify candidates against client-specific requirements — not just those who look approximately close.
- Conduct 2–4 structured 30-minute interviews per shift using behavioral and competency-based methodology.
- Execute Mock Calls and Script Readings where required by specific Boutique client profiles.
Endorsement & Candidate Coaching
- Endorse shortlisted candidates with complete documentation and evidence-based fit rationale.
- Coach candidates on areas for improvement and manage re-recording of mock calls or script readings when needed.
- Maintain consistent compliance with Magic's recruitment and selection standards across every endorsement.
Night Matching
-
Support the team in night-shift matching processes, ensuring candidates are reviewed, endorsed, and matched to urgent or time-sensitive client requests in real time.
Handle escalations from BDMs and CSMs during night hours — you are often the primary point of contact when leadership is offline. -
Ensure seamless client and candidate coordination during off-hours, with timely responses and proper documentation of all night matching activities.
Flag requisitions at risk of missing turnaround targets before they become an escalation.
Client Coordination & Pipeline Management
- Coordinate directly with Boutique clients on role requirements, timeline updates, and candidate status during night shift hours.
- Communicate proactively over Slack with the team and hiring manager — especially when blockers arise on hard-to-fill roles.
- Keep candidate pipelines in the ATS accurate and current across all active requisitions at all times.
What You Bring
- 1 - 3 years of recruitment experience — you have owned the full cycle from sourcing to offer, not just one stage.
- Prior experience working a permanent night shift in a recruitment role, sustained for at least several months.
- Hands-on ATS and CRM experience that you use daily — you can navigate a recruitment system from day one without a walkthrough.
- Advanced Boolean search proficiency — you can build and troubleshoot strings across platforms in real time.
- Behavioral interviewing expertise using structured, competency-based methodology — not just conversational screening.
- A track record of managing multiple simultaneous requisitions, including niche and hard-to-fill roles, without letting quality standards slip.
- BPO or VA-type recruitment background is a strong advantage — familiarity with high-volume, specialized hiring environments.
Your superpowers are...
- Flexibility and Adaptability : Ability to quickly adjust to changing requirements, new processes, and diverse client needs without extensive hand-holding
- Strong Attention to Detail : Meticulous approach to candidate assessment, documentation, and quality control
- Boolean Search Proficiency : Advanced skills in using Boolean operators and search techniques across LinkedIn, ATS platforms, and other sourcing tools
- Behavioral Interviewing Expertise : Proven ability to conduct structured interviews and assess candidate fit for specific roles
- Minimal Supervision Required : Self-motivated professional who can work independently while meeting deadlines and KPI targets
- Challenge-Ready Mindset : Not afraid to take on difficult, niche requisitions and complex recruitment scenarios
- Team Player Attitude : Ability to adjust and collaborate effectively with both introverted and extroverted team members
- Strong Communication Skills : Decent verbal and written communication abilities suitable for global candidate interactions
OUR HIRING PROCESS
- Application review
- HR Interview — 30-45 minutes
- 2nd-level Interview — Panel with Recruitment Managers
- Final Interview — with Head of Operations
- Job offer and onboarding
Reality of the role
This role runs 11 PM – 8 AM Manila time, permanently — no rotating shifts, no flexibility on schedule. Onboarding starts on day shift, then transitions to nights for the duration of the role. During your shift, you’re often the one making calls independently, because management is not online at 2 AM. That’s why prior night shift recruitment experience is a requirement, not a preference.
The work is genuinely complex — niche roles, tight turnarounds, and night matching on top of full-cycle recruitment. When no qualified candidate is in the pipeline, you source creatively, recalibrate with stakeholders, and keep moving without waiting for direction. The people who thrive here aren’t always the most experienced recruiters. They’re the most adaptable ones.
BEFORE YOU APPLY — ASK YOURSELF
Answer these honestly — not the way you think we want to hear:
- Have I worked a permanent night shift in a recruitment role before — and did I sustain it for more than a few months?
- Can I build a Boolean search string right now, on the spot, without looking anything up?
- Am I genuinely available and committed to 11 PM – 8 AM Manila time long-term — not as a temporary arrangement?
- Do I have real, daily ATS or CRM experience in my current or most recent role?
- Am I comfortable making independent decisions on active requisitions — including responding to night matching escalations — without real-time manager support?
- Am I applying for this role because I want this role — not because it's what's available right now?
If you answered yes to all — we want to hear from you.
If you answered 'maybe' or 'I'll figure it out' to any of them — the timing might not be right yet, and that's okay.
