Mechanical Design Engineer
at 80/20
Position Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for transforming conceptual ideas into fully developed products. This role focuses on creating innovative designs that complement and expand the existing 80/20 product portfolio. The engineer will work cross‑functionally to solve complex problems, design prototypes, generate detailed drawings, evaluate product performance, and support projects through their full lifecycle. Deep knowledge of linear motion systems, including actuators, slides, conveyors, and motion‑control components is required for the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Create new mechanical solutions from conceptual ideas.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings, models, and supporting documentation.
- Assess technical and project requirements to ensure feasibility and alignment.
- Conduct research to support design and product development activities.
- Present design concepts and recommendations to managers and stakeholders.
- Test, evaluate, and refine products through iterative design cycles.
- Prepare engineering reports, documentation, and technical communications.
- Support the development and enhancement of CAD modeling tools and customer design resources.
- Collaborate closely with Marketing, Sales, and Engineering teams to advance product development goals.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical or product design.
- Expert-level experience with CAD tools including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SketchUp, or Inventor.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong attention to detail and high accuracy in design work.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet‑based research tools.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently.

Apply advanced problem solving and critical thinking skills to engineering challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Project management experience.
- Background in metallurgy.
- Familiarity with patent development or trade secret processes.
