SRB:

The State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 11 regional programs. It establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs are safe and effective

** POSITION TITLE** : Crew Chief

** REPORTS TO** : Field Coordinator

** DESCRIPTION** : Supervise one Field Technician and work together in all phases of mosquito control operations, including but not limited to water management, larviciding, and responding to citizen requests for service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

Train Field Technician assigned to area in proper work techniques

Plan and work with Field Technician to complete daily actives

Operate vehicle in safe manner

Responsible for making sure vehicle and equipment are in safe working order.

Establish a treatment route for the larvicide season

Clear drainage ditch systems using shovel, rake, or other hand tools so that the water is free from debris.

Remove blockages from culverts.

Use sewer snake to unblock pipes.

Use brush cutter and/or chain saw to brush areas under surveillance for mosquito development.

Use hand operated or backpack sprayers to apply larvicides.

Practice safe work habits and use of tools.

Remember general layout of potential mosquito habitat in assigned work area.

Recognize mosquito adults and larvae

Continue education on mosquitoes and mosquito borne disease

Responsible for entering daily work reports into GIS Applications to be used in annual reports

Map ditches and pipes using GIS Applications to be used in CRS reporting

Respond to citizen requests

Perform other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.

Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : **

2+ years as a Field Technician

Pesticide Applicator Commercial Certification

Ability to work independently, adapt to varying work situations and to deal tactfully and establish rapport with others including members of the public.

Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise and understandable manner.

Ability to complete data entry on a smart devise or as needed on a computer.

Ability to maintain accurate records and assemble items of information according to established procedures.

Possess a valid driver’s license with clean driving record. Ability to obtain and maintain pesticide license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Required to stand, walk, use hands and finger dexterity to handle or operate tools or controls and reach with hands. Lifting or carrying weights of up to 50 pounds. Walk distance on uneven surface.
