School Nurse-DVS

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervises nursing procedures within the classroom setting as prescribed by the students family physician/specialists/Archway school physician
  • Identifies individual students medical needs through observation/monitoring/assessment of student responses to treatment and nursing care
  • Works cooperatively with parents/teachers in planning/counseling to ensure continuity of nursing care
  • Collects required medical data through state mandated health screenings, health appraisals and physician evaluations
  • When appropriate, participates in IEP development (goals/objectives) for student nursing care plans
  • Participates in designing medical strategies/nursing techniques/when needed
  • Maintains contact with parents/physician/sending school district/child study team concerning students medical needs, physicals, need for treatment and medical appointment follow-up
  • Monitors administration of medication
  • Maintains accurate/complete/organized health record files
  • Assists school physician/school psychiatrist as deemed necessary
  • Orders/maintains medical equipment/supplies to be used for health services/classrooms/bus transportation
  • Arranges teaching staff/nursing para-professionals in services regarding the identification of student physical/medical needs.
  • Coordinates nursing care with other therapeutic/recreational/education activities
  • Participates in Archway child study team meetings with regard to health issues
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings and participates in scheduled extracurricular events, & special projects.
  • Arrives to work on time and adheres to the electronic sign in/payroll system and attendance policy
  • Reviews and updates standing orders annually.
  • Sends mandated reports to the state.
  • Attends yearly Handle With Care Primary Restraint Technique (PRT) training.
  • Responsible for any miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree

1-3 Years nursing experience

NJ DOE School Nurse Certification

CPR Certification

RN License
