GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Human Trafficking Division is seeking an Assistant Attorney General whose
work will involve highly complex and/or supervisory (senior-level) civil work.
Work involves leading civil human trafficking litigation; planning,
coordinating and otherwise managing all stages of civil litigation including,
but not limited to drafting pleadings, pretrial motion practice, propounding
and responding to discovery, taking and defending depositions, preparing for
and participating as first chair in hearings, and trials in state court;
providing civil legal advice, counsel, and assistance; conducting legal
research into novel issues; and oversee and administer a pre-litigation, human
trafficking reduction program. Applicant will work closely with criminal
prosecutors and investigators and will work on cases throughout Texas. May
supervise the work of others.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
- Candidate must be highly motivated and able to bring the resources needed to introduce and prosecute civil cases and administrative actions related to human trafficking on behalf of the state of Texas.
- Handles all phases of civil litigation from investigation through resolution.
- Analyzes complex factual and legal issues; and develops evidence through witness interviews, civil investigative demand practice, subpoenas, depositions, or other discovery mechanisms.
- Performs legal research and reports findings and conclusions; drafts or supervises the preparation of legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents.
- Provides legal advice counsel and assistance to local prosecutors and law enforcement entities.
- Develops and provides training on human trafficking for law enforcement, judges, prosecutors, and other stakeholders on civil human trafficking matters.
- Helps to enact legislative mandates, works on policy issues, reviews and provides input on proposed human trafficking related bills and becomes a subject matter expert on human trafficking laws.
- Provides training, mentoring, and possibly supervision for less experienced staff.
- Demonstrated ability to build external relationships to further the division’s mission.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.

- Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
- Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
