Short Description| Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a Community Health Centre that aims to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. We do this by facilitating access to services and addressing systemic inequities. The Centre envisions a future in which diverse individuals, families and communities can achieve health with dignity. NOTE: To be eligible to apply for this position you must be :

Detailed Description| Responsibilities:**

  • Translate knowledge into practice through plant propagation from seed, cuttings, layering, divisions
  • Daily maintenance -Nutrient cycling systems using best practices in plant rotations
  • Organic garden maintenance tasks such as planting, weeding, and mulching
  • Maintenance and improvement of three-cell composter system
  • Checking the health of plants and responding with organic amendments and pest management
  • Cleaning and maintenance of tools, equipment and storage areas
  • Additional duties involve build capacity on record keeping, such as inventory, tracking production, weighing produce
  • Pollinator population tracking: Run seasonal counts of native bee and butterfly populations to measure biodiversity

Skills And Qualifications:

  • Previous education in: gardening, farming, horticulture, or landscaping
  • Ability to get involved in gardening activities and work independently
  • Ability to assess health of plants and respond with organic methods
  • Familiarity with native plant species and willingness to learn
  • Understanding of the rooftop garden as a learning garden; as such, enthusiasm to share skills and knowledge with the community at large is a vital part of this position
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with garden volunteers when required
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with individuals and groups
  • Experience working with immigrants and refugees, particularly from low-income communities
  • Commitment to working from an anti-racist /anti-oppression perspective
  • Punctual, reliable, proactive communicator

Salary: $ 18.60 per hour Hours: 35 hours per weekLocation: AccessPoint on DanforthBargaining Unit: This position is excluded from the bargaining unit.
