News Reporter - Reading Chronicle

at LOCALiQ UK

The Reading Chronicle is looking for a talented news reporter to join our busy newsroom and help drive one of the fastest‑growing local news websites in the UK.

You’ll be breaking big stories, holding power to account and telling the human stories that matter to readers across Reading and the wider Berkshire area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generating original story ideas and building contacts in the community.
  • Reacting fast to breaking news and publishing coverage online in real time.
  • Attending court and council meetings, and producing clear, compelling reports.
  • Working with editors to develop content that grows page views and subscriptions.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

We’re looking for a reporter who:

  • Has a sharp news sense and a passion for local journalism.
  • Can turn around clean, accurate copy to deadline.
  • Is confident covering everything from breaking news and crime to politics, community campaigns and human interest.
  • Understands how to write engaging digital stories, headlines and social posts that get people talking.
  • Is comfortable using social media, live blogs and video to reach and grow audiences.

Previous experience in a newsroom, NCTJ or equivalent training is preferred, but we’ll consider strong candidates from other journalism or content backgrounds who have a good attitude.

In return, you’ll join a supportive regional team with opportunities to develop your skills, take on bigger stories and progress your career within one of the UK’s largest local news publishers.

To apply, send your CV, a short cover letter explaining why you’re right for this role, and three examples of recent work.
