Financial Resolutions - Manager, Legal Recovery and Specialty Operations

Why This Role Exist Metro Credit Union is creating a newly formalized Specialty Operations team to strengthen the operational engine behind our recovery, legal, compliance, and asset recovery functions. This is not a backfill. It is an opportunity to build something meaningful As Specialty Operations Manager, you will help ensure legal recovery efforts are executed effectively, specialty processes run smoothly, and critical operational work is completed accurately and on time. Your leadership will directly influence recovery outcomes, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and the financial health of the organization. You will partner closely with leaders, specialists, attorneys, and vendors to create structure, accountability, and results across a diverse portfolio of specialty functions. What You'll Ow • Leadership and development of a specialized team supporting legal operations, asset recovery, liquidation, credit reporting and disputes, quality assurance, and operational support activities • Oversight of legal recovery strategies, attorney partnerships, bankruptcy monitoring, and legal account servicing. • Process improvement initiatives that increase efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve recovery performance • Operational compliance across specialty functions, ensuring activities are completed in accordance with regulatory requirements, court timelines, and Credit Union standards. • Meaningful reporting, accountability, and workflow management that help the department make informed decisions and achieve performance goals What You'll D • Lead, coach, and develop a team of specialty professionals while establishing clear expectations and accountability. • Oversee legal referrals, attorney relationships, bankruptcies, small claims activities, and recovery strategies. • Monitor repossession, asset recovery, liquidation, insurance claim, and dispute operations to ensure timely and compliant execution • Review operational trends, quality findings, and reporting to identify opportunities for improvement • Build stronger workflows, controls, and processes that help the team work more efficiently while minimizing risk • Partner with Accounting, Compliance, Loan Servicing, and other business areas to solve problems and improve outcomes • Serve as a hands-on leader who can balance strategy, prioritization, and day-to-day operational execution Success Looks Like in 12 to 18 Months • The Specialty Operations team is operating with clear workflows, accountability, and consistent execution. • Legal accounts move through the recovery lifecycle efficiently and transparently. • Recovery results improve through stronger legal oversight and strategic portfolio management. • Specialty processes are well documented, compliant, and scalable. • Team members understand their roles, perform confidently, and collaborate effectively. • Leadership has greater visibility into recovery forecasts, operational performance, and legal activity. Required Qualifications • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial services, collections, recovery, legal operations, or risk/compliance functions. • Minimum 3 years Legal experience either directly related to charged off debt recovery with a financial institution or law firm • Previous people leadership or team lead experience. • Strong experience managing multiple priorities, stakeholders, and operational processes. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical abilities. • Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments. Preferred Qualifications • Experience working directly with legal recovery processes, attorney partnerships, bankruptcy administration, or collections litigation. • Banking or credit union experience. • Knowledge of repossessions, asset liquidation, credit reporting, disputes, or quality assurance programs. • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
