Position Summary
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide direct care and personalized
support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a
community setting, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare. DSPs impact the
people we support through hands-on assistance, community engagement, and
promoting personal goals and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Understands, supports, and advocates with people we support by helping them achieve their vision of a good life.
- Identifies, documents, and shares concerns and successes as appropriate.
- Transports and accompanies people to activities, appointments, and events.
- Helps with personal care tasks as needed (e.g., bathing, dressing, hygiene).
- Supports activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Assists with money management by promoting independence and responsibility.
- Administers medications in accordance with training and protocol.
- Takes people to medical appointments and ensures necessary documentation is completed.
- Participates in recreational, social, and educational activities within the community.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, but equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- Previous experience working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred but not required.
- Knowledge & Understanding: Basic understanding of health, safety, and person-centered support principles.
- Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work compassionately and effectively with diverse individuals.
- Reliability and excellent time management skills.
- Ability to handle emergencies and follow safety protocols.
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within six (6) months of the start date.
- Must pass Medication Administration training within two (2) months of the start date.
- Satisfactory Act 33, Act 34, and FBI clearance required.
- Must have a valid PA Driver's License and a vehicle available for daily use, as local travel for transport and community activities is required.
