ABS Interns are integrated into ABS business operations and will experience various aspects of engineering software development, technical problem solving, and/or research and development. Interns will work with a designated advisor to learn and develop skills relating to ABS’s core business functions while also assisting ABS with key deliverables. It is expected that interns will be assigned multiple tasks related to engineering software development throughout the course of their internship.
What You Will Do:
- The primary function of an intern is to improve and innovate ABS engineering software for ABS core business functions including but not limited to:
- Development and Testing of Engineering Software.
- Develop User Manual and Step by Step Guide.
- Research and Product Development.
- Operational Safety and Evaluation.
- Data Science and Digital Services
- Development of Digital Rule
- Interns may provide engineering support in the form of software testing and providing feedback and improvement items.
- Under the supervision of an experienced engineer or engineering manager, interns may assist with detailed software development.
- Communicate the status of the current workload to all appropriate members of the team to ensure that the needs of the clients will be met.
- May propose new approaches to problems encountered and make recommendations for changes in methods, procedures, or designs.
- May assist in the development of business performance metrics including the development and implementation of an ongoing business performance monitoring program, and the periodic analysis of operating results to determine causes, trends, etc.
- May assist with the writing and presentation of technical papers and reports concerning areas of expertise and work performed.
- Interns may collaborate with the digital team and with other departments such as services, class, project management, commercial operations, etc.
- Interns may assist with data collection efforts for data quality improvement, in both existing and new data streams to support overall business goals.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- Undergraduate with the following preferred – Naval Architecture.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Satisfactory driving record strongly preferred.
- Basic engineering knowledge and proficiency in Excel and programming language, preferably C#, are preferred.
- Must be a full-time student currently enrolled in an accredited university and pursuing a BS, MS, or Ph.D. degree in one of the following engineering disciplines:
- Civil Structures
- Electrical Systems
- Mechanical Systems
- Ocean/Marine Engineering
- Naval Architecture
- Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System.
