The tutor is primarily responsible for encouraging self-directed learning and development in each student. To do this, a tutor assists students to understand their coursework. This may require the tutor to help clarify a concept or give a clear explanation of an assignment. The tutor is not expected to know how to answer every possible question, but rather to work to ensure that the student develops a firm foundation to take learning to the next level. Math tutors are asked to visit classes at the start of each semester to introduce themselves and make students aware of tutoring resources.
