Job Purpose
The Practical Nurse provides appropriate patient care according to established
care plans under the supervision from Registered Nurses in accordance with the
Nursing Scope of Practice. Adheres to and promotes the professional Nurses
Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi. The Practical Nurse is not licensed for
independent practice and remains responsible and accountable for his/her own
actions. Understands supports and promotes the mission, vision and values of
the organization.
• Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, assesses and implements
nursing care for patients ensuring a patient-centered approach to care.
• Assists in the activities of daily living for patients in accordance with
the patient care plan e.g. distribution of patient meals and assisting
patients with hygiene needs.
• Reports any significant changes in the patient’s condition to a registered
nurse-RN immediately. • Responds to all levels of emergencies according to
the organization’s policies and procedures.
• Ensure timely, accurate communication and complete documentation with
patients to include verbal and written correspondence with the patient or the
patient’s representative.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the management of
effective and efficient patient- centered care in a professional manner.
• Responsible for documentation and participation in the use of information
technology and relevant electronic medical records.
• Assists registered nurses - RNs and clerical staff in administrative
duties as required
• Ensures patients and families are provided with comprehensive information
and resources to meet their health care needs.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and family information by
promoting professional interdisciplinary communication
• Provides feedback on strategies to decrease costs and effective
utilization of resources
• Maintains adequate inventory of examination room supplies and prepares
exam rooms at the beginning and end of day and between each patient contact.
• Outpatient setting: Interact with clinic patients during the appointment
time frame. Interactions with the patient may include greeting, rooming, vital
signs, preparing the patient for exams or procedures, and providing
instruction follow-up directions to the patient.
• Ensure exam rooms, stations and clinic areas are stocked with adequate
supplies to promote efficient patient care.
• Complete all other tasks and duties as assigned by the line manager.
Accountabilities
• Apply relationship-building values and the principles of team dynamics to
perform effectively in different team roles to plan and deliver
patient/population-centered care that is safe, timely, efficient, effective,
and equitable
• Ensures the registered nurse is informed of observations and care provided
for patients and documented appropriately.
• Gathers records of patients regarding current problems, medications, and
allergies and reviews the medical record
• Manages all timely communication and documentation relating to individual
patient care as delegated by the nurse in charge.
• Maintains a safe and secure unit environment, identify report, and
document any risks and/or incidents appropriately.

Educational Qualification: Required:
• Diploma of Nursing not less than eighteen (18) months course duration •
AND Current National License
• AND BLS
Desired:
• ACLS, PALS relevant to the area of specialty.
