General Carpenter - TERM

at Adams Lake Indian Band


Adams Lake Indian Band is seeking an experienced General Carpenter. The General Carpenter supports the Housing Department in maintaining and improving community housing and infrastructure. This role involves skilled carpentry work with an emphasis on meeting local housing needs, respecting community values, and contributing to safe, well-maintained homes for members. Working under the Director of Housing, the Carpenter helps ensure projects are completed to quality standards, on time, and in a manner that reflects the community's priorities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Indian Band policies and procedures

  • Construct, install, repair, and maintain housing and community structures, fixtures, and equipment with attention to cultural and community standards.

  • Perform framing, finishing, and general carpentry tasks on residential and community buildings.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to meet project requirements.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join wood and other materials safely and accurately.
  • Repair or replace damaged frameworks, doors, windows, stairs, and other wooden elements.
  • Work collaboratively with Housing staff and community members to ensure projects address identified needs.
  • Mentor and guide community apprentices or helpers when applicable, sharing carpentry knowledge and promoting skill development.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures, building codes, and environmental guidelines.
  • Provide input and recommendations to the Director of Housing for maintenance priorities and housing improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent experience as a carpenter.

  • Proven experience in residential and/or community carpentry.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.

  • Knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and safety regulations.

  • Sensitivity to community needs and cultural values when carrying out projects.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, including working respectfully with community members and other staff.

  • Willingness to share knowledge and mentor less-experienced workers when required.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Experience operating equipment considered an asset

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.

  • Use of hand tools, power tools, and other equipment for extended periods.

  • Work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather.

  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Most work is performed in a typical construction environment.

Drivers Abstract with results acceptable to ALIB

BONA FIDE JOB REQUIREMENTS

Current Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector clearance, with results acceptable to ALIB

Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License (copy)


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full time term position approximately 6 months.

Wage range: $30-$40 per hour

Location: 6453 Hillcrest Road, P.O. Box 588, Chase, B.C.

Hours per week: To a max of 80 hours bi-weekly (max 40 hrs./week), with flexibility in hours/days of work.
