Wire Harness Engineer

We are currently looking for a Wire Harness Engineer to join our team in Elkhart, IN. The Wire Harness Engineer works as a member of the Engineering team to assist all departments in producing a smooth, efficient flow of quality work through the company. This position requires someone with a proven track record for completing projects on time and on budget, demonstrating good initiative and leadership skills, and working well with other departments. Formal training or considerable experience in the electronic products market is expected.

Job Specific Competencies:

  • Wire Harness
  • Designs harnesses; selecting components, prototyping, and producing manufacturing drawings.
  • Assure product capability and quality by designing electrical testing methods, testing finished products and system capabilities.
  • Delegates and oversees work related to wire harness costing, design, and manufacture.
  • Product Development
  • Develops products by studying applicable standards
  • Assists defining customer requirements
  • Electrical knowledge sufficient to calculate voltage drops, choose wire gauges, and make similar design decisions is required.
  • Documentation
  • Produce design and production documentation including schematics, boarding drawings, and splice and termination sheets.
  • Prepares reports on wire harness and electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs, applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
  • Maintains time records and project reports
  • Manufacturing
  • Researches and tests manufacturing and assembly methods and materials
  • Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling wire harness and electrical components, soliciting observations from operators.

  • Ability to train and guide technicians and engineers
  • Enhances staff accomplishments and competence by planning delivery of solutions, answering technical and procedural questions for less experienced team members, teaching improved processes

  • Ensure legal compliance with state, federal and OSHA requirements

Working Conditions

  • Movement - This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office and on the production floor. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Operate/Use - Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. copier, printer, calculator)
  • Vision - Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ascend/Descend - Rarely ascends/descends stairs to reach archived files
  • Communicate - This position frequently communicates with co-workers, managers and supervisors. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Transport - This position frequently lifts or moves 25 pounds, occasionally moves up to 50 pounds for various needs.
  • Work Environment - Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock and moving mechanical parts. Noise level usually quiet.
  • Travel - Occasional travel to customers and vendors, with overnight stays, may be required
