Job Title: Industrial PhD Applied Research in Supply Chain Planning (O&G)
Location: Spain, Valencia Region or Madrid

The job
We are seeking a highly motivated Industrial PhD candidate to conduct cutting- edge research at the intersection of machine learning and mathematical optimisation , applied to process industries.
This role is embedded in a strong collaboration between industry and academia (the ICSO Meta R&D group at Universitat Politècnica de València) and focuses on developing next-generation approaches that enhance traditional optimisation methods (including exact methods and metaheuristics) through AI and data-driven techniques.
The research will address real-world challenges in refinery and supply chain planning, contributing to both industrial deployment and high-impact academic publications.
Key responsibilities
- Mathematical Modelling & Optimisation
- Machine Learning / AI-enhanced optimisation methods
- Interoperability across industrial systems and platforms
- Advanced data visualisation and decision-support tools
Essential requirements
- Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computational Engineering, Computer Science or Data Scien ce
- Advanced programming experience (e.g. Python, MATLAB, Julia or similar)
Desired skills
- 2-3 years O&G industry or consulting experience
- Familiarity with refinery or process industry operations and planning
- Experience with optimisation tools (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi)
- Experience with metaheuristic optimization
- Exposure to data engineering or system integration
- Interest in data visualisation and user-centric design
