We are seeking a senior attorney to serve in the position of Director and Senior Corporate Counsel reporting to the Senior Director and Senior Corporate Counsel.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Draft, negotiate and advise on a variety of complex commercial agreements (e.g., inbound and outbound technology licenses, service agreements, co-marketing and co-branding agreements and software and SaaS agreements)
  • Provide strategic legal advice to the Law Department and senior business unit leaders regarding Verisign’s registry and product and marketing businesses. The Director role will advise on contract interpretation and risk, policies and regulations related to Verisign’s registry business, new product initiatives, advertising content and agreements, customer contract issues and marketing programs
  • Understand and leverage internal and external resources to ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws and regulations related to Verisign’s products and advertising, as well as Verisign’s top level domain registry operations
  • Ensure members of the Law Department are apprised of material developments and matters on a timely basis
  • Operate in an open and collaborative manner as a “team player”

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • J.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited law school
  • 10+ years of legal experience, preferably with some time spent in an in-house legal role in a technology/internet field
  • Experience drafting complex commercial agreements and leading negotiations, with an emphasis on technology and content licensing
  • Experience supporting the development and launch of new products and services
  • Experience reviewing technical presentations, whitepapers, marketing materials and regulatory and compliance-related communications a plus
  • Aptitude to quickly absorb and apply new information and function as a trusted legal advisor with direct interaction with senior management
  • Must be admitted to the Virginia bar or eligible for admission as a Virginia Corporate Counsel

This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule. 

The pay range is $199,100 - $269,300.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
