Job Brief

We are looking for an experienced People & Culture Manager to join our People & Culture team in Malaysia. This is a fully hands-on, senior generalist role — you will be the primary HR professional on the ground, partnering directly with the Country Head while independently managing the full spectrum of HR operations.

If you are someone who can run payroll in the morning, navigate a sensitive employee conversation in the afternoon, and still find time to think about what the team needs six months from now — this role is for you.

Responsibilities

• Process and own end-to-end monthly payroll, including all statutory submissions — EPF, SOCSO, EIS, PCB/MTD, and LHDN compliance.
• Manage all employee relations matters independently — grievances, disciplinary proceedings, performance management, and separations.
• Partner proactively with the Country Head on workforce planning, people decisions, and organizational matters — bringing observations and recommendations to the table without waiting to be asked.
• Oversee HR administration and office and facilities management with the HR Admin, and support the Talent Acquisition team on recruitment-related matters.
• Engage regularly with cross-functional HODs and management team members on people-related matters within their respective teams.
• Navigate stakeholder conflicts with confidence — able to hold firm on the people agenda and company position without compromising to avoid difficult conversations.
• Ensure HR policies, employment contracts, and practices remain compliant with Malaysian employment law.
• Lead the performance management cycle and support managers in building a culture of continuous feedback.
• Build and sustain a healthy team culture — going beyond events and activities to identify what drives engagement, flag early signs of disengagement or people risk, and address them proactively before they escalate.
• Drive employee engagement initiatives that are meaningful and reflective of the company's values, not just calendar-driven.
• Administer employee benefits, leave, medical claims, and insurance.
• Manage HRD Corp (HRDF) claims and local L&D program.

Requirements

• 5 to 7 years of HR experience — hands-on payroll experience is mandatory
• Proven experience handling employee relations cases independently, including retrenchment and mutual separation
• Strong working knowledge of the Employment Act 1955, Industrial Relations Act, and Malaysian statutory requirements
• Prior experience in a lean HR setup where independence and self-direction are essential
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization
• Decisive, calm under pressure, and comfortable being the most senior HR person in the room
• Proficient in BrioHR or equivalent HRIS; strong command of Microsoft Office and Excel
• Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia
