Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Protection (Backup and Recovery) Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, developing, implementing, and managing backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability. This role requires a deep understanding of various backup technologies and tools, as well as advanced scripting knowledge and data protection strategies across cloud platforms.

This position is based in our Hyderabad location, and we follow a hybrid work policy.

What will you do in this role:

• Design, develop, and maintain advanced backup and recovery solutions using tools such as Cohesity, AWS Backup, Azure backups, Commvault.

• Develop and implement automated solutions for backup and recovery processes to enhance efficiency and reduce manual intervention (preferably python, Ansible, PS, GitHub Actions)

• Create and manage self-service features for customers to facilitate their own backup and recovery tasks, improving user experience and operational efficiency (API based using python, Ansible, PS, GitHub Actions).

What should you have :

• Lead the optimisation of backup processes, ensuring data is backed up and available for recovery according to established schedules and policies

• Monitor and troubleshoot complex backup and recovery operational blockers, addressing issues proactively and providing expert guidance

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement comprehensive data protection strategies

• Conduct regular testing of backup and recovery processes to ensure effectiveness, reliability, and compliance with industry standards

• work with product manager to define the product roadmap and own/run/participate in agile ceremonies

• Maintain detailed documentation of backup configurations, processes, and procedures

• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to data protection and recovery and provide thought leadership within the organization.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field

• Relevant certifications (e.g., Cohesity certified expert, AWS Certifications,) are highly desirable

Experience:

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in backup and recovery engineering or a related field, with a focus on senior-level responsibilities

• Proven experience with backup solutions such as Cohesity, AWS backups, Azure backups, PPDM, RMAN, BRTools and familiarity with Commvault, Rubrik, and others

• Extensive experience with CI/CD, automation tools specifically Ansible Tower, GitHub actions for backup and recovery processes

• Extensive experience in scripting preferably python, PS and API based automations via Ansible, GitHub Actions.

• Experience with agile Frameworks using tools like Jira, Confluence as primary trackers for development, testing and deployment

• Experience with scalable architectures for backup storage

• Experience with Data Protection as a Service (DPaaS) solutions

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS and Azure, for backup and recovery solutions

• In-depth experience with Dell Data Domain storage systems

Skills:

• Strong understanding of backup and recovery methodologies and best practices, with the ability to apply this knowledge to complex scenarios

• Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to enhance backup processes and develop automated solutions

• Advanced knowledge of API based platforms, building automations via API to deliver services to customers

• Advanced knowledge of storage technologies and architectures

• Familiarity with self-service portal tools and frameworks for customer interaction

• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders

• Extensive experience with disaster recovery planning and execution

• Experience with different operating systems (e.g., windows servers, RHEL) and container solutions (e.g., Kubernetes)

• Familiarity with cloud-based backup solutions and hybrid environments

• Strong analytical skills to assess backup performance and identify areas for improvement

• Experience with storage systems (SAN, NAS, cloud ontap).
