Job Description

The Assistant Surveyor works with the Field Surveyor or independently under the Survey Manager supervision.

Complete various field survey operations as assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Total Station accurate set of angles and high accuracy levelling lops for Surface and Tunnel control network.

  • Total Station/GPS surveys, lay-outs and As-Built.

  • Other surface and tunnel survey works as requested

  • Setup and configure survey equipment

  • Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated

  • Helps maintaining and verifying the control network.

  • Maintain accurate survey notes and records, documentation, and stamped submittals.

  • Monitor work being completed in the field where surveying techniques are required

  • Communicate with operations, engineers, and subcontractors to complete assigned tasks

  • Manage As-Built information and digital records

Work Conditions:

  • The candidate should be able to work standard day shifts (M-F 7-5) and overtime, weekends, or night shifts as needed.

  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment, under different weather and environment conditions.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Solid understanding of safety requirements on an active construction site and applicable safety policies

  • Post-secondary education in Surveying, Geomatics or Civil Engineering preferred but not mandatory.

  • Knowledge of survey practices and standards

  • Preferred 2 years’ experiencec in Construction Surveying including Control Networks.

  • Construction experience in Civil, Structural, Utilities and other areas preferred.

  • Good computer skills. Preferred proficiency in the use of survey data and office, surveying, and CAD software.

  • Good oral and written communication skills and organizational skills

  • GPS, total station (Leica Captivate preferred), and digital level experience.

  • Experience in AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation is an asset.

  • Experience with Hydro One and Toronto Hydro specifications and standards is an asset

  • G Driver’s License with an acceptable record.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift 35 kg/75 lbs. Physical labors are a part of this job.

This role offers an annual base salary in the anticipated range of $70,000–$90,000 CAD, with compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
