Operations and Planning Compliance Engineer

This position will be responsible for providing support to ACES Members and Customers with meeting compliance requirements with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Operations and Planning Reliability Standards. The role focuses on power system reliability, regulatory compliance, engineering analysis, and audit readiness across generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
Duties and Responsibilities

Provide technical guidance on NERC standards and system reliability including but not limited to the accuracy of data submitted for the following NERC standards:

MOD standards (Modeling, Data, and Analysis)
- PRC standards (Protection and Control)
- FAC standards (Facilities Design, Connections, and Maintenance)
- EOP standards (Emergency Operations)
- IRO standards (Interconnection Reliability Operations)
- TOP standards (Transmission Operations)

VAR standards (Voltage and Reactive)

Review engineering studies, calculations, and rating methodologies to provide recommendations and compliance documentation advice
- Assist with mock audits and program reviews of Member NERC Compliance Programs.
- Support implementation of new or revised standards
- Maintain compliance documentation, including procedures, policies, and evidence for audits
- Identify potential compliance risks and system vulnerabilities
- Ability to travel (up to 20%)
- Adheres to and is supportive of all ACES corporate policies and complies with all regulatory requirements including but not limited to NERC, FERC and relevant state regulations as applicable to the position
- Any additional responsibilities assigned by management
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field (Note: An associate's degree in a technical discipline with additional related work experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree)
- 3+ years of experience in power systems engineering, NERC compliance, or utility operations
- Knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards or power system operations and planning
- Experience with load flow software, state estimation tools, relay and protection schemes, and/or power plant control engineering preferred
