Job Title: Senior Quality Assurance Engineer
Description: A hands-on Quality Engineering role focused on leading QE strategy and execution across API, backend, UI automation, and AI-driven features while mentoring engineers and driving release quality. This role aligns with industry titles such as Lead Quality Engineer, Lead QA Engineer, Senior Test Automation Engineer.
Role Summary** **
We are hiring a Quality Engineering Lead to drive test strategy, team execution, and cross-team quality alignment across multiple engineering teams. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced quality engineer who can set direction, coordinate QE activities across workstreams, mentor engineers, and own quality outcomes across API, backend, UI, and AI- driven feature domains. The ideal candidate combines deep automation expertise with the leadership capability to coordinate releases, manage dependencies, and represent QE in cross-functional forums.
Key Responsibilities** **
Team Leadership & Coordination** **
-
Lead and coordinate QE activities across multiple engineering teams, ensuring alignment on priorities, coverage, and release readiness
-
Assign and manage day-to-day workstream tasks across QE engineers, providing hands-on guidance, unblocking escalations, and ensuring delivery against sprint goals
-
Track cross-team dependencies and integration risks across engineering workstreams, surfacing blockers early and coordinating resolution
-
Own release readiness decisions — consolidate regression status, environment coverage, and dependency sign-offs to provide clear go/no-go recommendations
-
Represent QE in cross-functional forums, planning ceremonies, and leadership discussions — communicating quality status, risks, and strategic recommendations
-
Mentor QE engineers on automation best practices, framework usage, and quality engineering standards; drive knowledge sharing and technical growth across the team
API & Backend Automation** **
-
Design, build, and own API automation frameworks using Java — covering REST endpoints, request/response validation, schema checks, and contract testing
-
Develop comprehensive test suites for service integrations, microservices, and event-driven systems
-
Perform backend and database validation (SQL/NoSQL) — data integrity, transformation logic, and state verification
-
Drive contract testing practices to catch breaking API changes early (Pact or equivalent)
-
Build and maintain reusable API test libraries and utilities shared across the team
-
Integrate API automation suites into CI/CD pipelines as hard quality gates
-
Perform performance and load validation on critical API paths
UI Automation** **
-
Build, own, and maintain UI automation suites using Playwright for critical user journeys
-
Identify scenarios best covered at the UI layer vs. API/backend layer and advocate for the right test pyramid
-
Collaborate with front-end engineers on test coverage gaps and flaky test resolution
AI FeatureQuality(Preferred)** **
-
Test AI-assisted and AI-driven features, including agentic AI workflows and multi-step agent interactions
-
Validate AI outputs for accuracy, consistency, business correctness, bias, and edge-case behaviour
-
Design evaluation strategies for non-deterministic outputs (LLM responses, agent actions, tool calls)
-
Define regression and failure scenarios specific to AI systems
Quality Engineering Practices** **
-
Own quality for assigned features: requirements review, test planning, execution, and sign-off
-
Identify, log, and track defects; lead root-cause analysis with developers
-
Champion shift-left quality — engage at design and code-review stages
-
Define and own QE strategy across feature domains — including coverage planning, tooling decisions, and quality metrics — ensuring a proactive rather than reactive quality posture
Must-Have Skills & Experience** **
-
6+ years of hands-on QA / Quality Engineering experience, with the majority focused on API and UI testing.
-
API Automation (strong): Java — REST testing, request/response and schema validation, contract testing, service integration testing
-
Backend/DB Validation (strong): SQL proficiency; working knowledge of NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, or similar)
-
UI Automation (strong): Playwright — hands-on experience building, extending, and maintaining UI automation suites independently; Playwright is required
-
Programming: Java (strong); JavaScript / TypeScript (working proficiency)
-
CI/CD Integration: experience wiring automation into pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar)
-
AI Testing: hands-on experience validating AI outputs; exposure to agentic AI or multi-step agent workflows is a strong plus
-
Tooling: Jira, Zephyr (or equivalent test management tool)
-
Team Leadership: proven experience leading or coordinating a QE team — task management, mentoring, release ownership, and cross-functional stakeholder engagement
-
Cloud: working knowledge of AWS or equivalent — S3, Lambda, SQS basics for backend validation
