Overview
Verify and maintain records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare items for shipment. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material.
Responsibilities
- Examine shipment contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy.
- Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
- Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
- Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter.
- Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.
- Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications.
- Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
- Determine shipping methods, routes, or rates for materials to be shipped.
- Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping, storage, or demurrage charges, using computer or price list.
- Compare shipping routes or methods to determine which have the least environmental impact
- Inspect shipments to ensure correct order fulfillment.
- Order materials, supplies, or equipment.
- Prepare documentation for contracts, transactions, or regulatory compliance.
- Package objects for shipping.
- Record shipping information.
- Respond to customer problems or complaints.
- Analyze shipping information to make routing decisions.
- Coordinate shipping activities with external parties.
- Calculate shipping costs.

Perform other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Previous experience with ERP Software – Microsoft AX preferred.
- Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work.
- Must be willing to work as a team.
- Experience training and teaching others.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, proficiency in written and verbal communication, and good spelling and grammar.
- High degree of attention to detail; demonstrates accuracy and self-directed.
Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those and employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position may involve potential exposure to hazardous materials, and environmental changes (heat/cold), and the employee must be able to work under stress occasioned by production requirements, personnel, and the needs of other departments, utilizing proper body mechanics. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb ladders and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work will involve frequent lifting of materials and product up to 50lbs. Employee will be occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and walk.
