Vulnerable children in the UK need your help
Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you’ll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.
Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.
Why Action for Children?
Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It’s the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children’s lives.
A bit about the role
Our early intervention substance support service works across Lewis and Harris with young people aged 9-18 years, who are identified as having been under the influence alcohol or a substance and/ or using substances or alcohol regularly.
Secondly, we work with children or young people who are affected by a family member, or someone close to them substance or alcohol use.
We aim to provide support and assistance to those who are not currently heavily involved with statutory agencies where possible. We work with whole families to reduce the harms associated with drug and alcohol use.
We work in partnership with local statutory and non-statutory agencies to improve outcomes for children, young people, and their families.
We provide regular individual harm reduction-based approach to 1:1 session on drugs and alcohol.
Support around triggers for use and alterative coping strategies.
Support with abstinence and relapse.
Our work with young people and children uses a person-centered approach to address any issues affecting their well-being e.g. family issues, education difficulties, problems in the community, mental health, trauma or loss.
