Materials Movement Rail Technician

The Materials Movement Rail Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of railcars on-site, including spotting, switching, and supporting the loading and unloading of materials. Working in the railcar areas at the rear of the facility, this role collaborates closely with the Materials Movement and Extrusion teams to support efficient operations. The Materials Movement Rail Technician also performs maintenance, cleaning, and inspections of tank and boxcars, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. This role requires strong mechanical skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Location: Sugar Land, TX
Shift: Monday - Friday, 6 AM to 2 PM
Hourly rate: $18.00
Duties/Responsibilities
- Moves and spots railcars in support of loading, unloading, and operational needs.

Performs railcar and boxcar maintenance using current procedures, including cleaning, inspections, and basic repairs.

Conducts railcar inspections to ensure cargo and cars meet compliance requirements; escalates issues as needed.

Completes necessary shipping and receiving paperwork, including inspection forms and task/work order documentation.

Supports inventory management by tracking materials, Supersacks, Gaylord containers, and other resin containment vessels.

Maintains required certifications, completes ongoing training, and remains familiar with AAR and Texas Railroad Commission regulations.

Operates hand tools and equipment to support mechanical repairs and cleaning tasks.

Demonstrates professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Works safely and follows all site-specific safety protocols.

Performs other duties as assigned to support the success of the team and facility.
Required Skills/Abilities

Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.

Proficient with hand tools such as wrenches, ratchets, pipe wrenches, and other equipment used for railcar work.

Familiarity with rail operations, inspections, and maintenance preferred.

Comfortable working with inventory management systems and maintaining accurate records.

Demonstrates reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to working safely in all conditions.

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Strong teamwork, communication, and customer service skills.

Bilingual in English and Vietnamese preferred.
Education and Experience
-
High school diploma or GED required.

Previous railcar or warehouse experience preferred.

Welding experience is highly preferred.

Ability to read and write in English preferred.
Physical Requirements

Ability to stoop for extended periods and move routinely from kneeling to standing positions.

Must be able to wear a respirator and pass a Fit Test.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to climb ladders and perform tasks at elevated heights.

Ability to work in confined spaces.
